"Why Lakewood?"

Why Lakewood?

The Twin Lakes #4 School District prides itself on being a family oriented school with attention to the students as individual learners. We have relatively small class sizes, with a student to teacher ratio of 13 to 1. This size allows the teachers to get to know all of their students and build strong relationships that are proven to help promote learning. With events throughout the year such as family nights, music programs, and other PTO sponsored events, students showcase what they do at Lakewood while also integrating family participation.

Lakewood uses a balanced calendar instead of a traditional calendar. The school year starts in mid August and ends in mid June. Throughout the year, there are optional interim sessions that offer additional enrichment opportunities. A balanced calendar can decrease student regression during summer breaks and improve student assessment scores.

At Lakewood, students from 4K through 8th grade use technology daily from iPads to virtual reality devices. Students are provided with a personal iPad or Chromebook to further their education throughout the day. Students from 4K-1 are provided with an iPad and students 2-8 are provided with a Chromebook. Our virtual reality lab offers students the opportunity to explore topics, travel to other places of the world, and learn about different experiences all at the hands of a handheld device.

In the past few years, Lakewood has really started to target the closure of learning gaps and continuing to grow academically. These goals can be observed throughout our various state report cards in the last couple years. Our score for closing academic gaps and growing as a school have been above the state averages, which is very promising in achieving our goals.

During COVID-19, students and families have the option of in person learning 5 days a week, hybrid learning (in school 2 days a week, virtual 3 days a week), or virtual learning 5 days a week. Along with the options for learning, students utilize iPads and chromebooks for their daily learning as a preparation skill in the case we would have to move all virtual. In person students and staff are expected to follow all mitigation procedures as outlined in our Lakewood Reopening Plan.

Lakewood has many opportunities to offer, and if you are interested in taking a school tour and discussing these great learning opportunities please contact Carolyn Spangler at 262.877.2148 ext. 202 to schedule a visit. We would love to have you join the Raider Family.
